Dialogue:

Consider the Icon of Abraham's Hospitality.  What do you see in this icon?  What does it represent?

Genesis 18:1-8.  Three angels visit Abraham.  He addresses all three in the singular.  They eat lamb and bread.

The icon brings to our minds the Holy Trinity and the Holy Eucharist.

What is the Trinity?

It is like a divine family.  And the Church is the way in which the Holy Trinity opens Its family to us.  As in the

Incarnation God took on flesh, so in the Eucharist we take on God.  It is the very presence of God among us.

What do we believe about this family called the Church?

"And I believe in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church."  -- Nicene Creed

How is the Church One?

It is unbroken and undivided -- from each other, and from the faith of the Apostles.

How is the Church Holy?

God is present in the Church

How is the Church Catholic?

It is whole, complete and lacking nothing.  This is so because of Who God Is.  God adds His wholeness to our

           imperfection and frailty.

How is the Church Apostolic?

Its mission is to speak the Good News of Jesus, the God-man.

It is directly built upon the teaching of the Apostles.

How do we start our life in the Church?

           Baptism and Chrismation

How do we sustain our life in God, in the Church?

Partake of all Its sacraments, especially Confession and the Eucharist, our most intimate union with God.

Listen to (hear! -- from last lesson), the teachings of the Church.

What are the primary teachings of the Church that we listen to?

           The Old Testament Prophets.

           The Gospel writers.

           The Epistle writers.

What do the Gospels present to us?

The life and words of Jesus Christ.

What do the Epistles teach us?

How to live as Christians.  Words of Wisdom.

Who is the ultimate Light, Wisdom and Word?

Jesus Christ.  John 1:1-4.  The Truth is a Person.
