Antiochian Orthodox Church of the Redeemer Sunday School

Sunday School begins on Sunday, September 27, 2009, after Communion.  Please join us!

“Train up a child in the way he shall go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6

Our program offers many opportunities for the children to learn the teachings of the church and incorporate these teachings into their lives.  The most important aspect of Sunday school is to teach the children the importance of the Orthodox way of life and how they can participate throughout the Church year.

Sunday school is a community working together for the benefit of our children. The children are the future of our Church.  It is important that they grow in the Orthodox Faith.

Some of the activities of the Sunday school:

  • We celebrate two Great Feasts; the Theotokos Entry into the temple with special blessings for all the young girls and the Presentation of our Lord with special blessings of the young boy.
  • The children are involved in creating many religious art projects. They express their Love by making Valentine’s Day cards, cards for Mother’s Day and Christmas crafts.
  • All the children hold their special Icons and join Father Samer in the procession around church on Orthodoxy Sunday.
  • On Lazarus Saturday, we have our annual pancake breakfast, and decoration of Palm Sunday candles. On Easter, they have the Easter egg hunt.
  • We have our annual picnic with food, fun, and games.
  • Our open house has a slide show of some of the activities of Sunday school, introduction of the teachers and curriculum.
  • The children participate in the Western Region Parish Life Conference Creative Arts Festival and Bible Bowl competition.
  • We celebrate the Birth of Jesus Christ with an absolutely amazing Christmas Play.
  • On Christmas Eve, St. Nicholas comes and passes out gift bags for all the children.
